Lions Projects

While our primary focus is on supporting the vision and hearing needs of our local community the Clarkston Area Lions Club also supports many of the state, national and international programs of Lions International which include the following.

 

Sight Programs Each Lion club is a resource for those who live in their community and need eyeglasses or hearing aids, but cannot afford them. Used eyeglasses collected by Lions and other volunteers are recycled at one of ten Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers throughout the world.

 

Project Kidsight is a free vision screening program for children. Utilizing a special digital video camera images of the child's eyes are taken and analyzed. A report is then printed showing the results. Conditions checked for include near and far sightedness, stigmatisim, anisometropia, cataracts and strabismus.
Leader Dogs for the Blind Leader Dogs For The Blind, located in Rochester, Michigan, is a Nonprofit Organization that is committed to providing the legally blind with a means to assist them in living a full and more independent life.
Eversight Michigan Eye-Bank provides corneal tissue for transplantation, supports eye and vision research and promotes public awareness of the need for eye donors.
Lions Bear Lake Camp for physically challenged youth is owned and operated by Lions Visually Impaired Youth Camp.? The camp, located north of Lapeer, is financially supported by Lions, Lioness and Leos throughout Michigan.
Penrickton Center for Blind Children, located in Taylor, MI, is a unique, private non-profit agency, providing five-day residential, day care, and consultation/evaluation services to blind, multi-disabled children ages one through twelve.
Silent Children's Speech Fund provides funding for Beaumont's Center for Childhood Speech and Language Disorders which helps children with speech and language disorders learn to communicate.
Madonna University Lions Hearing Program Since it's inception in 1976, Madonna University's Office of Disability Resources (O.D.R.) has assisted more than one thousand (1000) students with disabilities.
The Lions Hearing Center is a partnership between the Lions service organization, The Detroit Medical Center and Wayne State University. Their mission is to focus on service to the hearing needs of the community and the medically underserved in the area.
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is the grant-making arm of Lions Club International. Through gifts to LCIF, Lions can serve a broader community than they could on their own. This includes grants for its sight programs, humanitarian services, disaster relief and vocational assistance.
